European Data Protection Board has accepted the final version of Guidelines on the use of facial recognition technology

The European Data Protection Board has accepted the final version of Guidelines on when and how facial technology can be used in law enforcement.

The Guidelines emphasize that facial recognition technology should only be used in accordance with the Law Enforcement Directive and that all use of the technology should meet necessity and proportionality standards, in line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

The Guidelines also state when the use of facial technology should be banned.
